Weebly - Personal Website

Weebly is an online website creator. The bonus to using this site is that you get one site for free and it is super easy to use. Follow these steps to get started.

Sign Up

Click on the picture about to sign up for your free classroom website.

Building the Basics

Theme

First choose a theme and color pallet. It is as easy as clicking on the design you like and giving it a go. You can always change your mind later.

Add Pages

Click on the "Page" section to start adding pages. You can choose from standard pages to blogs. Teachers, you will want both. Standard pages are perfect for saving online game links. Blogs are great for classroom updates, events, and activities.

Build

Weebly has the easy to use drag and drop feature to create your personalized page.

Organize

Keep organized! Even if you are building a site for your kids make sure that it is easy to use and clearly labeled. I suggest providing a title and button for each game so your kids know what they are about to play. You can add cool images or even videos later.

Link

Now we will add a link from the button you created to the website. When you link a picture, text, or button you are making a connection with a specific website.
1. Copy the URL of the website you want your kids to visit.
2. Click on the button in your webpage. You will see a small box with options. Choose "Link". Now paste the address in the "Website URL" section and Save.

Publish

Don't forget to click the "Publish" button in the top right corner to save all your work. Once you have done so, click on the three bars next to the publish button.

Go to "My Sites" and find your website and URL address. This will be your website address for your kids to go to and play.

Technology - Getting Started

Yes! Technology is a must both at home and in school. If you want to reach your child on their playing field you have to include technology. Not only do they enjoy it, they will not be able to keep up in society without it. Teachers, quiz your students on what they already use or are interested in trying out.

The way I find games is doing a simple Google search. Type in the subject area along with "online games", "multiplication online games". Review each game before you before you bookmark the page and set your child loose. Just because it is educational doesn't mean it is right or even appropriate for your child.

Search.

Review.

Bookmark.

To bookmark, find the star in the top right hand corner of your screen. When you click on the star a box appears for you to add a name and folder location. I suggest creating a folder just for educational games making your resources easier to find.

Educators,
Listen up, because if you don't already have a classroom website, create one now. It is the easiest way to communicate with parents and provide educational extras your students need.
