Engage students in computer science, science, technology, engineering and math with this new hands-on robotics platform, LEGO Mindstorms Robotics EV3. This class will introduce and enable students to build, program, and test their solutions based on real-life robotics technology. Students are encouraged to brainstorm in order to find creative solutions to problems and then develop them through a process of selecting, building, testing and evaluating.
Enjoy learning math concepts in a fun, new way by riding the range and putting math to work in real life situations. Find how math interacts with the western way of life by using your skills to determine calculations regarding your livestock, ranch and roping those doggies! This class will focus on the concepts of multiplication and division.
Find out what is happening deep within our planet when the earth moves and the oceans heave. What happened in Pompeii? This examination of the Earth includes the materials and the processes acting upon them. Lots of hands-on experiments and volcanoes that blow their tops!
Sure we all do if we're living and breathing animals! This course is an in-depth, hands-on study of the digestive system, cardiovascular and respiratory systems in the human body. How does food break down and supply our system with energy? What keeps the heart pumping and how does it receive oxygen from our lungs? All these things and more will intrigue you and give you an appreciation on what your body does every minute of the day!
What does it take to run across the room? This study of the body will explore the skeletal frame and how it protects our organs, the muscles and how they receive commands to move, flex and stretch all protected by our largest organ-the epidermis. With hands-on activities that make anatomy and physiology studies are not only fun but informative. Create a model moving hand and dissect a drumstick to learn more about our amazing body
This class will be a geometry-based class working with shapes, planes, angles, classification and polygons. Learning comes alive in this building and design course where students create geometric models from building and craft supplies. Students will explore 3 dimensional shapes by building a bird house. Explore polygons and symmetry through kite designs. Identify specific angles within a Lego city.
Warning, wild weather ahead! Get blown away in this hands-on exploration of meteorology. We predict patterns, create gauges, make tsunamis, and recreate hurricanes.
Ever get in trouble for playing with your food? In this class, it is required! We will make spaghetti boogie, rice dance, and explode lemonade. Satisfy your science cravings with candy chemistry, pickle batteries, and rubber eggs. We will explore tons of hands-on, food related experiments and the reason behind each delicious disaster.
Have you already explored the world of Lego Mindstorm Robotics EV3? Do you have experience with coding and/or robotics and ready for more? Come test your skills and explore the more advanced programming of robotics through movement challenges, mazes, and robot design. We engage students in computer science, science, technology, engineering and math with this hands-on robotics platform. Students will build, program, and test their solutions based on real-life robotics technology
Curious about the robotics craze? Try something a little different with the Sphero SPRK robot. This little guy travels on any surface, including water! This versatile bot can be programmed through language controls or manually right from your device. Mixed with STEM building challenges you will be able to take the driving challenges controlled from an iPad.
This class is purely devoted to multiplication and division operations. Sound boring? Not in Mrs. Delaney's class! Become a math maniac by learning from your food, singing silly songs, racing around the room, and playing tons of games! What better way to become a better multiplier and divider than through hands-on games, online simulations, and even outdoor play.
Struggling to love math? Well then, you haven't taken this class! Jam packed full of educational games, Zoo Math can make a math lover out of anyone. By combining math and science, students receive positive hands-on experiences in real world applications. What better way learn math than with their favorite animals and a field trip to Potter Park Zoo!
